Individual Counseling--This is the easiest way for me to provide for each student's individual needs. Counseling referrals may be made by anyone. I have approximately an hour and a half of planning time that is used for individual and small group counseling.
Small-Group Counseling--When there is a common need among a group of students, I can also provide small group counseling. The purpose of a counseling group is to provide a safe environment so that the students may practice healthy behaviors that can transfer to the regular education classroom. Small group counseling begins in September (when student behaviors have been established) and ends at the conclusion of our school year. The size of the groups ranges from 3 to 6 people. Groups typically meet for 30 minutes a week, for 4 to 8 weeks.
504 Coordinator--Some students with disabilities or other medical conditions may be eligible for 504 services (accommodations). If you believe your child may be eligible for these services, please contact me.
Student Assistance Team (SAT) Co-Coordinator--Students struggling with academic or behavioral objectives may be referred to the SAT for discussion about possible interventions and/or accommodations. A parent or teacher may make a referral.
Response to Intervention (RTI) Tutoring--I have a block in my schedule specifically for helping (tutoring) students in tier II of RTI framework.
Classroom Guidance--Half of my day is spent in the classrooms teaching about character education. A school counselor is responsible for assisting students' development in three categories: personal/social, career, and academic.
Attendance Coordinator--Although we are no longer participating in a county-wide attendance contest, we have started our own attendance contest at the school-level. Attendance is crucial to learning!
